To please the Lord, one must render service unto Him and serving the deities is considered necessary. One such service or ritual is Abhishekam in which the deities are sprinkled and bathed with different liquids. This ceremony is performed on different occasions such as Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Mahashivratri etc. in the temples. But a devotee can perform it on a daily basis at their homes too.
This Abhishek Patra is large size, made of brass, and is suitable for two or three small deities or one large deity to be worshiped and bathed with holy water, rose water, milk, yogurt, honey, ghee (clarified butter) and fruit juices. On the spacious tray, the deities can be seated, bathed, dressed and ornamented. It also has an outlet from where all the liquid ingredients are allowed to be poured out in a separate vessel.
The liquid ingredients are then mixed and distributed among the temple guests. The mixture is considered sacred because it is obtained from the Lotus feet of the God or Goddess. Performing Abhishekam is a very important devotional service which increases love and devotion for God even more and the consciousness of the person gets pure and elevated. Note the muted yellow color of this brass paraphernalia which is enough to give it an auspicious and pure appearance.
