Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara stands in the midst of the Buddhist heavens. The complexion of His torso and multitudinous arms (sahasra or thousand, to be specific) matches the peaches-and-cream belly of the lotus He is standing on. In the foreground are Manjushri (Bodhisattva) and Heruka (pala or guardian deity), while higher up in the heavens are White Tara, Amitabha (Buddha), and Green Tara.
The thangka that you see on this page has been handpicked from Nepal for its brilliance and authenticity. Sage green mountains, cool glacial waters, and gossamer clouds in mystical colours, these are integral aspects of the traditional Buddhist heaven visualisation.
Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara looks over and succours the mortal realm of existence with deep, compassionate vigour. Before His chest, He clasps the wish-fulfilling jewel in His lotus-like hands. The many heads of Avalokiteshvara bear every complexion of the tathagatas as well as a wide range of moods, from the serene to the wrathful.
