Jagjit Singh was born on 8th February 1941 to simple parents in Sriganganagar. Rajasthan. Actually named Jagmohan at birth his devout
Sikh father rechristened him Jagjit on the advice of his Namdhari guru. Jagjit’s early years were spent in Bikaner, where his father was posted as a
public works department employee. Jagjit’s father got him to train under a blind teacher. Pandit Chhaganlal Sharma, and later, under Ustad Jamal
Khan of the Senia gharaana (a school of traditional Hindustani music). Jagjit Singh’s proficiency spread beyond Ghazals and He established
himself in the arena of film music as well as devotional singing.
The multifaceted genius lent his mellow tones to Bhajans and came out with several devotional albums namely Hey Gobind Hey
Gopal. Maa, Sanwara, Hey Ram, Shiva and others. Like Ghazals. Jagjit Singh sings Bhajans like a human breathes. It comes so naturally to his that
