RANJIT SARKAR
Inspired by the writings of Rabindranath Tagore and having drawn the legendary Guru Dutt and Tagore in his earliest portraits, Ranjit Sarkar is the quintessential example of an artist who gathers inspiration from sources all around him. Representation of women in his paintings is Sarkar’s way of remembering and celebrating the beautiful and inspiring womenfolk that he observed while growing up. In his childhood, Ranjit Sarkar and his brother used to draw sketches, but the turn toward portraiture and paintings happened when the artist got his hands on the artistic works of his father.
Using acrylic as his medium, Sarkar creates intricately painted marvels on his canvases, mixing realism with his perception and visions of the world. Dance, especially Kathaputli, Kalbeliya, and Dandia form a substantial theme for Sarkar’s paintings, according to whom the joyfulness and energy of these dances move him to paint the ecstatic dancers. Sarkar wishes to explore his current subjects in greater detail, moving toward a balance of impressionism and realism in his upcoming projects.
Ranjit Sarkar has completed his studies in the Indian style of painting at Chandpara Art College, West Bengal, and a Diploma in Painting from Hyderabad. His artworks superbly recreate the vibrancy and vigor of Indian mythology, culture, and history and his interactions with these themes.
