Preface

The articles appearing here are collected and edited from the proceedings of an International conference entitled "Trends in Music Therapy Today" on 13th August,2008 at D.P.S Agra organised by Kriti Kala Sansthan. The theme of the Conference was 'Trends in music therapy today' and the objective of the conference had been to encourage discussion in the field of music therapy to provide new ideas and directions in this field. In this conference, a great amount of enthusiasm was noticed among the Scholars, faculty members and experts. This was evident from the number of research papers (Sixty) which were submitted for this conference and the screening committee had a tough time in scrutinizing them. In all 40 papers were selected for presentation. However in the present volume the reader will find only 27 research papers. Many constrains are responsible for this, the main being financial but we're sincerely worked together behind the publication of these papers in a book form. But due to the huge expenditure on the shoulder of the organizing committee, we have been forced to restrict the number of published paper to 27 only. We will try our best to publish the remaining papers in the future edition of this book. It is hoped that this edition will, in its own 'modest way, contribute towards a greater understanding of research in music therapy and perhaps even lead to attempt at reviving some of the unknown treasures of Indian Music. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the contributors who have taken pains to send their papers. Special thanks to Dr. R.K Mittal,Ex. Principal Secretary, Govt. of U.P., who inspired me to undertake this task and to Pt. Debasis Chakroborty, renowned classical guitarist and secretary of KKS who worked hard to help me for editing this book. I would also like to thank Dr. S.N.Sharma, Retd. Reader Psychology Department, RBS College, Agra and Dr. Pushpa Srivastava, Retd. Reader, Kendnya Hindi Sansthan, Agra. I am particularly indebted, not only for the honor of coordinating this conference, but also for the immense amount of information that I have acquired, in the process of editing these papers.
