We are pleased to present to the public this book on Swami Subodhananda's life, teachings, reminiscences, and letters.
Swami Subodhananda, known popularly in the Ramakrishna Order as Khoka Maharaj, was a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. What marked him out from the other disciples of the Master was his childlike simplicity and guilelessness.
The life of Swami Subodhananda has been reproduced almost verbatim from Swami Chetanananda's book, God Lived with Them. We are grateful to the author for granting us the required permission.
The reminiscences about Swami Subodhananda have been translated from the Bengali book Swami Subodhanander Smritikatha, compiled and edited by Swami Chetanananda and published by Udbodhan Office, Kolkata. We are grateful to the publishers for s-ranting us permission to publish the translations of these reminiscences.
The letters of the Swami have been translated from The Bengali book Sri Sri Swami Subodhanander Jibani O Patra, published by Sonargaon Ramakrishna Math, Dhaka.
Swami Vimohananda of Advaita Ashrama, Kolkata, has compiled, translated; and edited the reminiscences, letters, and teachings as a labour of love.
William Page, of the Ramakrishna Vedanta Association of Thailand, has put us under a great debt of gratitude by meticulously editing the whole manuscript and also giving his extremely valuable suggestions. We are indebted to Swami Chetanananda for letting us use an adapted version of the glossary of his book Sri Ramakrishna and His Divine Play.
Our thanks also to Shubhabrata Chandra, who has designed the cover of this volume.
Without doubt, through this book readers will get a wonderful glimpse of the divine and endearing personality of this saintly and eminent disciple of Sri Ramakrishna.
