On the occasion of its Platinum Jubilee, the Academy is proud to present the Third Compendium of Fellows elected to the Academy since its inception in 1935. Brief sketches of all the 1499 Fellows, including those who are deceased, are alphabetically arranged in two volumes. The first volume covers names starting from A to M and the second volume consists of Fellows beginning with N to Z. Chronological list of Fellows is appended at the end of the second volume.

The INSA fellowship has in its fold the distinguished men of science and other luminaries, who have rendered conspicuous service towards the advancement of science and technology. Election to the Fellowship of the Academy has thus come to signify a unique honor and recognition, which is greatly coveted by scientists in India. To that extent, his Compendium may be regarded as an authentic reference guide on India's distinguished Men of Science. The first Compendium of Fellows was brought out on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee (1984), the second during the Diamond Jubilee (1994). Since then as many as 364 new Fellows have been elected to the Academy. Therefore, the Academy decided to bring out the third Compendium of the Fellows.

Professor Alok Bhattacharya, FNA and Professor R Ramaswamy, FNA have very meticulously edited the profiles of all the living Fellows to bring them into a uniform style. In preparing these manuscripts all the Fellows were contacted. I am thankful to the entire Fellowship for their wholehearted support to this project.

However, information about some of them who could not respond was prepared from the available sources. The profiles of the deceased Fellows were prepared in house. In preparing the write-ups on deceased Fellows, INSA publication: Biographical Memoirs were of great help.

I wish to place on record my thanks to Professors Alok Bhattacharya, FN A, and Professor R Ramaswamy, FNA, Dr Alok Moitra, OSD; Mr. PK Mishra, Assistant; Ms Vandana Gajare, Assistant; Mr. Amit Jain, Assistant and Ms Nidhi Gupta, Project Assistant of the Academy for their painstaking, dedicated efforts to put together this Compendium within a short time. The Editors and his team of officers have made every effort to collect adequate information about all the elected Fellows.

I have great pleasure to present this third Compendium of the Fellows of our Academy.
