Diet Cure for Common Ailments covers the whole gamut of ailments which can be cured merely by proper food habits and regulation of one's life, without recourse to medicinal treatment. The book is based on the theories and fundamentals of nature cure that go to preserve health and vitality and regain these when lost. It will undoubtedly be a boon not only to laymen but also to nature cure practitioners as a reference guide because of its practical utility.
Nature cure has carved a niche in the realm of curative sciences in our country and abroad, though the protagonists of the drugless healing system have included many other unorthodox treatments in their curative disciplines. Nature cure, through its correct application brings about amazing changes that baffle the practitioners of modern medicine, devoid as it is of the crippling side-effects of drug treatment. The all-pervading truth is "Nature one possesses the power of healing." There are not many institutions which cater to this system. Hence, many patients cannot take advantage of it. Dr. Bakhru's book in this revised edition with complete treatment charts and illustrations will serve as a useful guide to those who wish to treat themselves through this system at home.

I was afflicted with several serious diseases from an early age. At the age of 16, I contracted pleurisy and typhoid fever of long duration, simultaneously. Both these illnesses left me extremely weak. In subsequent years I suffered from numerous critical ailments, including hyperacidity with severe heartburn, breathing trouble, stroke, suspected brain tumour, chronic duodenal ulcer, spondylosis, mylagia, hiatus hernia with peptic oesophageal ulcers, suspected heart disease, insomnia, backache and prostate enlargement.
The modern medical system failed to provide me any relief from these diseases and I underwent a great deal of physical suffering and mental anguish for almost 40 long years. Eventually, at the advanced age of 55, I made a determined bid to give up all drugs and take resort to the natural methods of treatment.
I obtained substantial relief by taking recourse to the time-tested methods of nature cure, in which diet plays a major role. It was mainly through diet control that I succeeded in controlling several serious disabilities. This convinced me that a properly and carefully planned diet programme can go a long way in rooting out disease and restoring health and youthfulness.
This conviction, based on personal experience, prompted me to write a series of articles on Diet Cure for Common Ailments, which were published in many leading newspapers Encouraged by the reader's response, I have compiled them in a book form for the benefit of a wider readership.

Preface to Second Revised Edition:
There is a growing awareness today about the importance of diet in the maintenance of good health and in the prevention and treatment of diseases. More and more people are now adopting dietary treatment for overcoming their health problems. This trend, coupled with success attained in treating diseases through appropriate diet, has promoted me to revise my book, Diet Cure For Common Ailment.
This book has proved quite popular since its first publication in 1988 and it has already gone into six Jaico Impressions. It has now been revised and enlarged to include more diseases, which respond favourably to dietary treatment, as well as illustrations, and treatment charts. Illustrations, would give better understanding of the diseases. Treatment charts provide not only the diet chart, but also other time-tested natural methods of treatment, making the book truly a book for self-treatment of common ailments. It would, however, be advisable to consult a nature cure practitioner in case of serious illnesses.
