Bhakta Kavi Gopala Krishna (1784-1862), a devotee of Lord Krishna and a keen reader of Chaitanya Charitamrita, belonged to the Vaishnava Cult. He was a great exponent of 'Odissi Sangita' (devotional song), which is well-known in every town and village of Orissa. The clear expression of his words reflects the softness and purity of his heart just as the pure and sweet river water in the autumn season reflects the clear blue sky. A pure Vaishnavite, Gopala Krishna always avoided any fame and name. So, he did not have nay desire to assemble his poems in book forms. He became famous as pandit, devotee and scholar. Except the allegorical types, all other varieties are exhibited in the writings of Gopala Krishna.
