Even though there are countless books on various Ayurveda formulas, the works are indeed rare to enlighten the readers on the practical aspects of their use.

Written by a professional Ayurveda physician, the book could serve the Ayurveda students and practitioners about the day-to-day practice of Ayurveda. The book contains descriptions of a number of formulas on the basis of different diseases.

The book contains a helpful and exahustive list of contants and a working Index as well. The book is a must for every Ayurveda physician and MD students of Kaya Chikitsa

Preface

In the present day of society, we see that the professionals of classical Ayurveda are meager in number. The cause for the same may be many, but lack of an authentic hand book incorporating basic principles of practicing the Ayurveda is one. To fill this gap an effort is made to give the upcoming practitioners of Ayurveda a confidence. The book aims to give them additional inputs involving some rare formulations.

I hope that with the help of this practical text one can practice Ayurveda with ease and provide efficient patient care to the patients through a principle of positive health and thus could gain rappo and wealth for themselves.

While preparing this book many details have been collected from various authentic Ayurvedic texts. They have been presented for practical use. Besides, the experiences and observation of the author have also been included in the work.

The prescriptions in the book quoted from the classical texts have been appropriately referenced. Similar is the case with the prescriptions quoted from the references books. Such books have been mentioned in the bibliography. There are also prescriptions which are based on the experiences of the author in clinical practice.

Some of the preparations prescribed in the work are based on the teachings of my preceptor Dr. K. V. S. prabhakaram M. D. the then Professor & HOD (for P. G.) Dept of Shalya, Shalakya & Prasuti-striroga, & Dr. Ch. Ranga Rao M. D. the then Proff. & HOD (for P.G.) Dept KC, Dr. B. R. K. R. Govt. Ayurvedic Collage, Hyderabad.

This is my first book, there may be errors and omissions here and there. If you notice or observe them, the same may be brought to the notice of the undersigned so that he could make necessary corrections in the forthcoming editions of the book.

FOREWORDS-1

It is no doubt that it is possible to eradicate the diseases by means of proper treatment. It is also not impossible to import therapeutical instructions so that one could be well conversant with the principles of treatment and act on such principles in an effective manner. But such persons as could retain the therapeutical instructions in their entirely or could act on them and apply them in individual cases properly, are very rare. The difference in variations of the factors to be kept in view at the time of treatment is very subtle in the sense that it is not easy to grasp them thoroughly.

The work of Dr. Gopal is really appreciable. He has taken great pain to compile and collect the various formulations for different interesting conditions which are not well established so far His approach has been refreshingly novel, bold and imaginative. In doing so, he built up his hypothesis exclusively on the basis of reference gathered from the classical Ayurvedic text and commentaries on them. His work is the need of the hour, particularly for the new practitioners which will enable the readers to grasp the ideas easily.

He was taken great pains to explain the concept of the basic principles and their applied aspect along with the principles and applied aspects of the Ayurvedic therapy in the first 3 chapters. The distribution of other subjects into different chapters, for different diseases and various symptoms, and Index to references make this book more informative. Introducing Maharoga trayee as few chapter is ideal in present era.

Miscellaneous chapter covered different diseases, procedures, investigations make this book easy to use. I am very happy to say that this book covered Astangas (sodasangas) as per Ayurveda and also covered all the systems and symptoms as per modern. In this book the physician will get clear descriptions of all diseases, Which the physician common and a physician is very often encountered with them along with their treatment. In the end the author has nicely given four appendices dealing with Ayurvedic preparations along with their doses and pathyapathyas, weights and measures and glossary for various diseases.

This specific work will enrich the knowledge of Ayurveda in general and to the knowledge of practice of Ayurveda in particular. I am very hopeful that this literal contribution to the traditional methods of diagnosis and treatment with multiple classical preparations would serve as a means to serve the suffering the humanity in a simpler and authentic way. I wish Dr. Gopal to get more opportunities to write books and I hope that this publication will come out many additions.

FOREWORD-2

It gives me great pleasure in writing the foreword to this short text book on principles in practice of Ayurvedic medicine written by Dr. Gopal Salavurao. This book on Principles and practices incorporates all about the interesting and valuable treasure of scattered knowledge of great ancient medicine.

Many times personally I am taking advice from Ayurvedic doctors to help my client where our science does not help them. In this juncture we established Ayurvedic medical college, world fame Naturopathy and yoga centre with all facilities and services to cure chronic ailments like asthma, Diabetes etc.

As a modern surgeon I know little about great ancient plastic surgeon Susruta who had also invented various surgical methods and ethics which are nothing but roots of origin of modern medicine and surgery. Now I know many interesting hidden meanings which are similar or greater than modern views which can be served desired humanity. I also personally understand Ayurveda and yoga etc. along with my surgical practice. I am happy to say that present book included all the systems and symptoms which are useful to each and every Ayurvedic practitioners as well as modern practitioners also where modern science does not deep in such conditions.

Ghata prabha since time immemorial has been a center of big market place in the district and well as connected to major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad Erankulam, Goa Mysore and Tirupati.

In this small town S.J.G. co-operative society is the first society among the others not only in Karnatake but also in India. Ayurvedic medical collage T.B Sanitorium, Naturopathy and Yoga center, modern Hospital, Nursing colleges working under above society. It is also nearer to famous Gokak falls and Hidkal Dam. Perhaps it is the great environment of this town that has inspired the author for the furtherance of this work form a different angle, the first of its own kind.

Started his teaching carrier in our college and it the S.J.G.C.H.S Society Hospital and Research Limited Ghata prabha (Belgaum Dist, Karnataka). The Author is well known to me for fore more than three years in various work of his life as a lecturer. Consultant and Co-ordinator for various programmes in the department of Shalakya tantra of our institute. The Author is among the few original thinkers of Ayurveda and is known for his insight into this subject.

The Author deserves every appreciation of this short text book from many points of view. Firstly for his hard work and the great pain he has taken in collecting the various rare prescriptions specially on growth and development and surgical aspects, Secondly the stress on emergency medicine in Ayurveda and medical management of surgical cases and thirdly the inclusion of newer topics like Dialysis, Anesthetic drugs etc. I congratulate the author and wish him all the best for this important publication
