Preface

Kamala Aanshu was a well-known Indian Nepali writer who wrote more than 125 short stories of which 117 are published in her four collections of books. She was a prolific writer, essayist and columnist who wrote more than 1000 articles in a short span of life. She became one of the most popular writers during 2000 right till her untimely demise in 2006. She has been an inspiration to all the women of the region and has continuously advocated the various issues related to women through her writings. She lived a short life of only fifty years, but has immensely contributed to the society and Indian Nepali literature.

As a housewife, mother, social worker, teacher and writer, she was a perfect woman who excelled in every field of her interest. She was a tireless reader too, reading biographies of great personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Rabindranath Tagore and many great women who inspired her much. She made a sincere effort to follow them in practice too. She was a great admirer of Mahasweta Devi, Amrita Pritam and Parijat in the field of literature and was also idolized Mother Teresa and the pro-democracy leader of Myanmar, Aung Sang Suu Kii. She regularly read various national and international magazines and journals on wide-ranging subjects and used to share her knowledge with friends and with the readers through her writings. It is a great loss for Indian literature and society that a great talent was lost at a time when she was contributing to society richly in terms of both quality and quantity.
